Fret or Delight?

Psalms 37

Passage

David starts out this Psalm with “Fret not…”. Such a small word, but it can have a large impact on our lives. How often do we get wrapped up in the little issues, especially when things do not go as we had hoped. It leads to anxiety, anger and jealousy, which are all not where God wants us to be.

David goes on to instruct us to “Delight yourself in the LORD”. The original text here for Delight is to be pliable or adaptable, which should drive our attitude when we see adversity, knowing God is in control. When we get caught up in the struggles of the day, we need to look to God, see what He is doing and take Delight in Him.

God Hates Sin

Psalms 30

Passage

This Psalm David wrote after dedicating the land for the new Temple as covered in 1 Chronicles 28. This dedication came after David realized what a great sin he committed against God. David had consequences fro his sin, and realized he needed to repent and return to God. This Psalm prises God for showing David his sin and providing a way to return.

Are we truly thankful when God shows us our sinful nature? Do we see that as an opportunity to draw closer to Him? We still have consequences, but we also know that God is there for us to guide and provide a way back when we go astray.

Wait

Psalms 25

Passage

David’s Psalm asks God to not let his enemy triumph over him. We first think of David’s enemies as Goliath, Saul, or his son Absalom. If we look deeper it appears that David is dealing with a more close enemy, his own flesh. An enemy we are all too familiar with.

David mentions that if he would only wait on God he woul dbe delivered from the enemy, instead of giving in to his desires. Many times we could benefit from this advice when we are faced with our own challenges, but we do not understand God’s timing, and fail to listen to His guidance. Often we are just in a hurry to get things done and move on.

As we look at God’s character, we realize that being in a hurry is not one of them. Let’s take time to be in the Word, and pray that we learn to wait for God to show us the perfect way.

Seeking After God’s Heart

Psalms 19

Passage

We remember David was known as a “man after God’s heart. In his Psalms thera re may references to how David wanted to please God and honor Him through his actions and words. He continually asked God for guidance and direction.

In our lives, do we seek God’s heart, or are we merely seeking His blessing? In order to seek God’s heart, we need to know Him and trust that He loves us. Let’s continue to seek so we can find what God truly has for our lives.

O’ LORD, Our Lord

Psalms 8

Passage

At the time of David God’s name was Yaweh or Adonai, which referred to the Sovereign One. This is usually written as LORD in most translations today. Addressing God in this way drew a personal relationship and respect for who He is.

When we look at Jesus today, do we see Him as sovereign? do we follow Him as Lord?
